Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 30, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information The Kingsbury Workshop LLC ("The Kingsbury Workshop," "we," or "us") collects through thekingsburyworkshop.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. The Kingsbury Workshop is a small woodworking business in Washington State, run by Michael Kingsbury.

What this policy covers

This policy covers our website, thekingsburyworkshop.com, and the custom orders and messages that start there. Cutting Board Designer, our free web app at designer.thekingsburyworkshop.com, has its own privacy policy that describes the app in detail. A short summary is included below.

Information you give us

Custom order requests. When you submit the Custom Order Request form, we collect your name, email address, what you're interested in, and your project description. You can also choose to share approximate dimensions, wood preferences, a budget range, a desired completion date, a link to a Cutting Board Designer design, additional notes, and reference files such as photos, sketches, or PDFs.

Contact messages. When you use the Contact form, we collect your name, email address, and message.

Order details. If you place an order, we may also collect information needed to complete it, such as a shipping address, phone number, or pickup arrangements, along with records of payments and order communications.

Please don't send sensitive information, such as health information or government ID numbers, through our forms. We don't need it.

A note about photos you upload. Photo files can contain hidden details, such as the date or the location where the photo was taken. If that matters to you, remove location data before uploading, or send a different image.

Information collected automatically

Our website runs on Squarespace. When you visit, Squarespace automatically processes technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the site that referred you. We use this in two ways:

  • To run and secure the site. For example, an essential security cookie helps protect our forms.

  • For Squarespace Analytics. Squarespace may record limited page-view information even if you decline analytics cookies. If you accept analytics cookies, Squarespace can use cookies to recognize returning visitors and provide more complete traffic information. We use this information only to understand and improve the site.

Our forms are protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which helps block spam. reCAPTCHA collects information about your device and how you interact with the page and sends it to Google. Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply to reCAPTCHA.

We don't use advertising cookies, retargeting, or social media tracking pixels.

How we use information

We use your information to:

  • reply to your questions and custom order requests

  • prepare quotes, plan, make, and deliver your order

  • keep records of orders, payments, and communications for accounting, tax, warranty, and legal purposes

  • protect our forms and website from spam and misuse

  • understand, in summary form, how our website is used, if you've accepted analytics cookies

We don't add you to a mailing list, and we don't send marketing emails.

How information is shared

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share information only with service providers that help us run the business, and only as needed:

  • Squarespace hosts our website and forms and provides Squarespace Analytics. Form submissions pass through Squarespace, which may also keep a copy in the website's records.

  • Google (Gmail) receives and stores the form submissions and emails we exchange with you, because our business email is hosted by Google. Google also provides reCAPTCHA.

  • Payment providers process deposits and payments when you pay for an order. They handle your payment details under their own privacy policies.

  • Shipping carriers receive your name, shipping address, and contact details when we ship an order.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights, our customers, or others.

How long we keep information

  • Inquiries that don't become orders: we aim to delete these about 12 months after our last meaningful contact, when it's reasonably practical to do so.

  • Orders: we keep order records and related messages for as long as reasonably necessary for the order, accounting and tax, workmanship questions, disputes, and legal obligations.

  • Uploaded files are kept for the same period as the request or order they belong to.

Copies may remain in backups or service provider systems for a limited time after deletion.

Your choices and requests

  • Cookies. You can accept or decline analytics cookies using the cookie banner, and change your choice later through the cookie preferences link. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

  • Access, correction, and deletion. You can ask us what information we have about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email michael@thekingsburyworkshop.com. We'll respond within a reasonable time. We may need to keep some information when we're legally required to, for example records of a completed order.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Our website uses a small number of them.

Essential (always on)

  • crumb: a security cookie set by Squarespace that helps protect our forms. It expires when you close your browser.

Analytics (only if you accept)

  • ss_cvr: set by Squarespace Analytics to recognize a returning visitor. It lasts up to about 2 years.

  • ss_cvt: set by Squarespace Analytics to track the timing of a visit. It lasts about 30 minutes.

Cookie preference cookies

  • ss_performanceCookiesAllowed: remembers whether you allowed performance and analytics cookies. It lasts about 30 days.

  • ss_marketingCookiesAllowed: remembers whether you allowed marketing cookies. It lasts about 30 days. We do not currently use advertising or marketing cookies, but Squarespace uses this cookie to remember your preference.

Squarespace also stores a few small settings in your browser's local storage to help pages behave correctly. These don't identify you.

Third-party services. On pages with forms, Google reCAPTCHA runs to block spam and may use its own cookies or similar technology under Google's policies.

We don't use advertising or marketing cookies.

Your choices. When you first visit, a banner lets you accept or decline analytics cookies. Essential cookies are always used because the site needs them to work. You can change your choice at any time through the cookie preferences link, or by clearing cookies in your browser.

Do Not Track. Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. Our website doesn't currently change its behavior in response to that signal. You can use the cookie banner to decline analytics cookies.

Cutting Board Designer

Cutting Board Designer, at designer.thekingsburyworkshop.com, is our free web app for planning cutting boards. In summary:

  • You can use it without an account. Your designs are stored in your own browser, on your device.

  • If you create an account, we store your email address and the projects and lumber inventory you choose to save to your account, using our provider, Supabase.

  • When you share a design, the design is contained in the link itself. Anyone with the link can view that design.

  • You can delete your account and its cloud data from inside the app.

  • The app is hosted by Netlify, which, like any web host, processes technical information such as IP addresses to deliver it.

  • The app doesn't use cookies, advertising, or analytics tracking.

For full details, including feedback submissions and account deletion, see the Cutting Board Designer Privacy Policy at designer.thekingsburyworkshop.com/privacy.

Children

Our website and Cutting Board Designer are meant for a general audience and aren't directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Security

We use reasonable measures, including secure (HTTPS) connections and reputable service providers, to protect your information. No website, email, or storage system is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our practices change. We'll post the updated version on this page and change the effective date above.
