Caring for your wooden cutting board
Your board ships conditioned and ready to use, with the board conditioner included. A little regular care keeps it in good shape.
Everyday cleaning
After light, dry use, wipe the board clean and keep it dry.
After raw meat, poultry, fish, or a lot of residue, wash it by hand with cool or lukewarm water and mild dish soap.
Rinse promptly and dry it right away.
Don't leave standing water on the board or inside the grip handles.
Drying
Boards with rubber feet can finish drying flat.
Boards without feet should be propped up or set on a rack so air can reach both faces.
What to avoid
Never put your board in the dishwasher.
Never soak or submerge it.
Avoid very hot water.
Avoid harsh or abrasive household cleaners.
Don't dry it in an oven or microwave.
Avoid long periods of direct heat or sunlight.
Conditioning
Use a wax-based cutting board conditioner, such as the board conditioner included with your board. It's made with food-safe mineral oil and organic beeswax.
Apply it to the top, bottom, edges, and inside the grip handles.
Let it sit overnight when you can, then buff off any excess.
About every 3–4 weeks is a starting point. Condition more often in dry climates, in winter, or with heavy use.
Condition again when the wood looks lighter, dry, or rough, or when it soaks up water more quickly.
Knife marks and refinishing
Light knife marks are normal.
A rough or heavily marked surface can often be lightly sanded and fully reconditioned.
If you're not sure, contact me before attempting any major refinishing.
Complimentary repair
Each cutting board includes one complimentary repair for an issue that can reasonably be repaired. It's separate from workmanship coverage, so a workmanship problem doesn't use it up.
The complimentary repair doesn't cover damage caused by improper care, dishwasher use, soaking or prolonged water exposure, misuse, or other damage outside normal use.
For a complimentary repair that isn't a workmanship issue, you ship the board to me, and I cover reasonable return shipping after the repair.
Please contact me with photos and a description of the problem before shipping a board or attempting a major repair. For the details, read the Returns & Cancellations policy.
